2nd Cavalry, (59th Regiment), Second State Standard. Recruited during the fall of 1861, the 2nd cavalry was composed of men from Philadelphia, Lancaster, Centre, Northampton, Crawford, Berks, Tioga, and Armstrong counties. A second state standard was sent to the regiment in February 1865 after the first was taken home. On June 17th, the 2nd cavalry was consolidated with the 20th Cavalry to form the 1st Provisional Cavalry, and was mustered out of service July 13, 1865. Click here for more images

2nd Cavalry, (59th Regiment), First State Standard. Recruited during the fall of 1861, the 2nd cavalry was composed of men from Philadelphia, Lancaster, Centre, Northampton, Crawford, Berks, Tioga, and Armstrong counties. Governor Curin presented the 2nd cavalry the first state standard on March 19, 1862. Color-Sergeant Fowler of Company A carried it through forty-three battles and skirmishes until January 1865, at which point Fowler took the first state standard home for recruiting service. On June 17th, the 2nd cavalry was consolidated with the 20th Cavalry to form the 1st Provisional Cavalry, and was mustered out of service July 13, 1865.
